Only DEMOCRATS protect your rights and put in place policies to REDUCE abortions

June 24, 2022.  The US Supreme Court overturned the precedent of Roe v Wade, a federal law that has been in place for 50 years allowing women the right to a legal abortion. The shock of this decision reverberated around the world and is still reverberating.

The decision on abortion was returned to the states – many of whom were ready & waiting with trigger laws already in place.   These “trigger laws” went into effect as soon as the Supreme court struck down Roe v Wade, allowing states that had already decided to ban abortion should Roe get overturned, to do so almost immediately.   Some of these laws-in-waiting (which are now laws in actuality) were based on legal language from the 1800’s.

This has created chaos across the country as states are suddenly in charge of the rights of women to decide what they can do with their bodies.

As of this writing (8/28/22), twenty states (20) have total bans on abortions. This includes for cases of rape and incest. Some states do not even have exceptions to save the life of the mother.

Below is the current state of abortion laws in the states in which we have billboards and targeted digital ads.

Vote for these Democrats

  • Democrat Katie Hobbs for Governor
  • Democrat Kristin Mayes for Attorney General
  • Democrat Adrian Fontes for Secretary of State
  • All Democrats running for the state legislature
  • All Democrats for US Representatives
  • US. Senator Mark Kelly for re-election
  • Democratic candidates will protect a woman’s freedom and the right to legal abortion

Arizona Abortion Status

All abortions have ended in Arizona as of June 24, 2022. This is a result of a “trigger law” from 1901.  Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich made clear that even though the state legislature had passed a law on March 30, 2022 that was to go into effect June 30, 2022 banning abortion after 15 weeks, that the 1901 law would be the one he would enforce.  Brnovich agrees with the 1901 law and will fight to make that permanent. He is up for re-election on November 8th.  Just one of the Republicans that needs to be voted out.

The state legislature of Arizona is dominated by Republicans even though there is only one seat between them and the Democrats. They want to pass a total abortion ban and also want to ban birth control. It is crucial to VOTE FOR DEMOCRATS up and down the ticket!

ALL Republicans running in AZ are election deniers – 81% of the current Republicans have voted to overturn the election of 2020 – and believe all abortions should be illegal.

Vote for These Democrats:

  • Governor Gretchen Whitmer for re-election.
  • Attorney General Dana Nessel for re-election.
  • Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson for re-election.
  • All Democrats running for the state legislature.
  • All Democrats for US Representatives.

Democratic candidates will protect a woman’s freedom and the right to legal abortion.

Michigan Abortion Status

There is a 1931 “trigger law” on the books in Michigan that was to go into effect after Roe fell. However, Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer asked a judge to “stay” the law – to stop its implementation.

Judge Jacob Cunningham granted a preliminary injunction on August 20, 2022. The Governor has also asked the Michigan Supreme Court to decide this issue and declare abortion legal in the state.  Advocates have collected enough signatures to put an initiative on the ballot this November 8th in Michigan to make abortion and birth control a constitutional right in the state.

On the other hand, Michigan’s state legislature is very conservative and wants to abolish abortion with no exceptions for rape, incest or the health of the mother.  They also want to make birth control illegal.

ALL Republican candidates running for office want to end abortion.

VOTE FOR DEMOCRATS UP AND DOWN THE BALLOT

  • Democrat Josh Shapiro for Governor
  • Democrat John Fetterman for US Senate.
  • All Democrats running for the state legislature.
  • All Democrats for US Representatives.

Democratic candidates will protect a woman’s freedom and the right to legal abortion.

Pennsylvania Abortion Status

Abortion is still legal in Pennsylvania up to 24 weeks. After that, and if it endangers the mother, there are exceptions. This state has no trigger laws.

However, the Republican led legislature wants to ban abortions in all cases without exception. The only reason this did not become law is because it was vetoed by the Democratic Governor.  To get around the Governor’s veto, Republican legislators have passed phase one of adding to the PA constitution that abortion is not guaranteed. They plan to put this on the ballot as an initiative.  If it passes, arguing that abortion is a right would be almost impossible in the courts.

It is crucial to elect the Democrat Josh Shapiro for Governor on November 8th.  He will keep women’s rights in Pennsylvania alive! The Governor in PA appoints the Lt. Governor, Attorney General and Secretary of State. These are then passed by the State Senate.

If the Republican candidate for Governor, Doug Mastriano wins the governorship it will be a disaster. He is a 2020 election denier, paid for 6 busloads of people to go to the Jan 6th insurrection, is in the state senate and was part of the group of lawmakers that tried to thwart the will of the people and overturn the 2020 election.   He also has paid at least $5000 for “consulting services” to GAB, a social media platform that provides a home for conspiracy theories and antisemitic/White Nationalist content.

VOTE FOR DEMOCRATS UP AND DOWN THE BALLOT:

  • Democratic Governor Tony Evers has vetoed every extreme law by the legislature.
  • Democrat Doug LaFollette for Secretary of State.
  • Democrat Josh Kaul for Attorney General.
  • Democrat Mandela Barnes running for US Senate
  • All Democrats running for the state legislature.
  • All Democrats for US Representatives.

Democratic candidates will protect a woman’s freedom and the right to legal abortion.

 Wisconsin Abortion Status

All abortions have stopped in Wisconsin since the fall of Roe. The very conservative Republican dominated state legislature wants to ban abortion in total with no exception. They want to utilize a “trigger law” that was established in 1849.  And while there is currently a law on the books allowing abortion up to 22 weeks, no one is willing to perform one. The concern is that the practitioner could be charged with a felony.

ALL Republicans running in Wisconsin want to stop ALL abortions. Republican Tim Michels running for Governor believes it’s not a burden to ask women to go through forced birth. No exceptions for rape or incest or the health of the mother.   In addition, of the current elected Republicans in Wisconsin (including Senator Ron Johnson), 73% tried to overturn the 2020 election.

Are you against abortion?

Vote for Democrats! Only Democrats put in place policies and programs that REDUCE abortions! Programs like · safe and affordable birth control · sex education · consent education · increased women and maternal health care, · and yes, safe abortion procedures so women don’t die from ectopic pregnancies, rape, miscarriage, incest, (and poverty.)

Dispelling MYTHS about Abortion

When do most abortions occur?

1. The vast majority of abortions – around nine-in-ten – occur during the first trimester of a pregnancy. In 2019, 93% of abortions occurred during the first trimester – that is, at or before 13 weeks of gestation, according to the CDC.

2. Two thirds of abortions are performed before 8 weeks (when the embryo is less than half an inch in size.)

3. An additional 6% occurred between 14 and 20 weeks of pregnancy, and 1% were performed at 21 weeks or more of gestation.

4. Fetuses are not viable before 24-28 weeks.

5. Viable fetuses are NOT being aborted.

6. The incidence of abortion has been decreasing since 1990, dropping by nearly 50% thanks to Democratic programs such as increased birth control availability, sex education, consent education, and women’s healthcare availability.

WHO HAS AN
ABORTION?

  • At 2014 abortion rates, about one in four women will have an abortion by age 45. Source
  • White patients accounted for 39% of abortion procedures in 2014, black patients for 28%, Hispanic patients for 25%, and patients of other races and ethnicities for 9%.
  • Some 75% of abortion patients in 2014 were poor (having an income below the federal poverty level of $15,730 for a family of two in 2014) or low-income (having an income of 100–199% of the federal poverty level).
  • Seventeen percent of abortion patients in 2014 identified themselves as mainline Protestant, 13% as evangelical Protestant and 24% as Catholic, while 38% reported no religious affiliation and the remaining 8% reported some other affiliation. Source

WHAT PROGRAMS REDUCE
ABORTIONS?

Case study: Family Planning Initiative (CFPI), a 2009 program that widely expanded access to more forms of contraception in the state. State and federal dollars fund free and low-cost IUDs — intrauterine devices that prevent pregnancy for five years or more — for low-income women and teens who visit community health clinics across the state. And in 2017, Colorado became only the third state in the nation to allow women to get prescriptions for oral contraceptives at the pharmacy instead of only from a doctor.

-Teen pregnancy reduced  nearly 59% (2009 to 2017)

-Teen abortion rage decreased by 60%

-reduced pregnancy and abortion rates for women aged 20-24 by 14%

-Increased high school graduation rate

-Colorado avoided $70 million in public assistance costs.

WE'RE FIGHTING FOR YOUR RIGHTS, FREEDOMS & LIBERTY

We have heard from so many Democrats that they want Dems to fight back against the Republican assault on our country. DMP is FIGHTING BACK!

And know this, with the overturning of Roe, with gun violence exploding across the country and the January 6th hearings, Democratic energy about the midterms is exploding.

Despite the mainstream media wanting to drive a dark narrative, reality on the ground – confirmed by activist energy and multiple Congressional polls – is that Democrats are well positioned to hold and expand the Senate.

Adding just TWO MORE Democratic Senators is critically important and will serve a number of very important purposes.
